God
As an early teen, I went to Saint Gabriel’s Catholic School in New Rochelle. Needless to say, JC and his enlightened state was often the topic of study.
I was not clear on what enlightenment meant, but in my young mind I believed I would become God-like once I became enlightened. My fantasies were supported by movies like The 10 Commandments, and The Greatest Story Ever Told. I fully expected to be able to heal the ill and be favored by God.
Of course, my definition of God was supported by religion and movies. My early version of God was a powerful, demanding, omnipotent and indifferent male entity that resided somewhere “out there”.
For me, meditation came later in life, and was one of the paths that lead me to that enlightened place, even if it was temporary. I experienced my awakening during my journey’s inward. The more I went in, the more I realized the divinity I was looking for was inside me all along.
Lesson #1: Enlightenment is The Divine within us, expressed through us.
Wake Up.
We’re not here to play God…but could it be that we ARE God’s here to play non-God?
There are many myths about the instant amnesia souls experience upon our return to Earth, forgetting all of who we were. Many Hawaiian’s believe this life is a dream and then we “live” while we sleep.
Could it be that we pretend to be mortals, and our unpredictable adventure is a story of our own creation?
Lesson #2: This dream we’re in? Enlightenment. The process of dreaming? Enlightenment. The realization that we are all the people in the dream and creator of the dream? Enlightenment!
ALL
Everyone and everything, manifested or un-manifested, is an extension of Source. If Source is the water that all beings, particles and experiences are birthed, then every human and everything, from plant to puppy – is a different aspect of the Divine.
Looking for enlightenment yields ambiguous results if we ARE enlightenment looking for itself.
Lesson # 3: Enlightenment is a detached view of everything.
SELF
It is through our bodies, minds and souls that Oneness experiences itself. Through our eyes, Source witnesses the beauty of its own creations. Through our ears, the Divine symphony of sounds is creating life’s musical melody. When we savor the sweetness of life, Source is experiencing the deliciousness of life itself.
Every thought, feeling, decision and action, is one where Source is evolving, creating, and expanding.
The Self is the vehicle through which Source can experience its miraculous creations. Within the Self contains every concept, invention, desire, need, experience, choice, possibility and outcome. Nothing is outside of Source… which means nothing is outside of YOU.
Our duality-consciousness may perceive some experiences as “negative”, “unspiritual” or “unenlightened”; but in the perspective of Source, every experience is a gift that holds the keys to our personal purpose.
Lesson #4: Enlightenment is the moment-to-moment life experienced through the Self. Enlightenment is the anger we feel after betrayal, the guffaw of laughter at a good joke, the heart wrenching pain when we say good-bye to a loved one for the last time, the love and safety when we embrace our children, and the fulfillment that courses through our veins when we reunite with our divine mission. We are enlightenment.
