Yup. This was a real question someone asked me.
My friend noticed that my emails & topics are little more “woo”. For some reason, she interprets the word “Magick” with “the dark”.
Fortunately, I didn’t take it personally and banish her from my Queendom ;o) I did recognize a beautiful teaching moment. So, I asked her, what I am about to ask you:
- As a child, have you and a sibling (or friend) ever pulled on a chicken “wish bone”, making a wish, hoping you got the big end?
- Have you ever wished on a star? Or made many wishes that equaled the amount of spots on a ladybug?
- Have you ever pulled petals from a daisy reciting “He loves me, he loves me not”? – hoping that the final petal was affirming?
You may say to yourself, “yeah, but these are fun superstitions for kids”.
Ok, sure….but where did it come from?
I believe conscious-manifesting is magick – we just don’t call it magick…(maybe we should!)
See, Magick and Manifesting have the same basic recipe:
Desire + Emotions + Words + Action = Results
One of my favorite types of magick is sympathetic magick – where actions are carried out on one object in order to effect change on another.
Sympathetic Magick is based on 2 laws:
- The Law of Similarity: Which rules through imitation, meaning “like influences like”. So – if you desire something, the use of honey in your candle magick will help attract it. (Magickal Tip: One of my teachers taught me an old “hoodoo” trick: The Honey Pot. Here you write your desires on pieces of paper and place them in a jar half filled with honey, to call in your desires.)
- The Law of Contagion: This law indicates that, regardless of time or distance, something can be influenced by that which it came in contact with. This can be as obvious as wearing something belonging to someone you love or as abstract as a carrying a rabbit’s foot for “good luck” (although one could argue that the rabbit was not so lucky!)
Here’s the thing – I do LOVE magick. Always have.
I also believe in the adages “Do unto others as you would like done unto you” & “harm none”.
No darkness here.
Magick is an art form that honors me, the people around me and nature itself.
