We’ve all heard about the power of saying “No”. Like, saying “No” to abusive relationships, to whiny or complaining friends (who just want to gnaw your ear off), or to that person who never gives back in return for all of your giving.
We rarely hear about the power in hearing “No”.
We associate hearing no with rejection, feeling down about ourselves as a result (surely if we were worthy, we would’ve heard “Yes!’ right?)
Actually…. “No”.
Often these “No’s” are blessings in disguise…
When I was in my 20’s, I applied for a job in a trendy fashion boutique on 57th between Lexington and 5th in New York City. I just knew that my association with such a place would make me trendy and fashionable.
When I got the rejection call, I was devastated. I wallowed in self loathing and doubt. At some point, however, I had the wherewithal to ask God to show me why this was a good thing.
Fast forward – the store was closed within a month.
Around this same time, a friend of mine was stood up by a “really cute guy” she met. He turned out to be Robert Chambers, also known as “The Central Park Killer”. The night he stood her up, he killed someone.
Moral: Look for the gifts in rejection.
I guarantee you’ll find it. Maybe the Universe has something far better planned. Maybe you are being spared some type of heartache….or in my friend’s case, much worse.
Whatever it is, when you hear “No Thank you..” allow your reply to be – “No…Thank YOU.”
Then ask the Universe to show you the gift.
And stay “awake” for the answers.
