Our culture (as Americans) tends to shove all kinds of “standards” down our throats.
- Standards of Beauty: Mostly European :o(
- Standards of Living: You, know – spouses, white picket fences manicured yards, kids, and 4o1k’s.
- Relationship Standards: You are not complete unless you are in a relationship – and you better be straight.
- Standards of Thinking: Choose your political side & stay on that side of the fence. God forbid you were raped in Texas, got pregnant by your rapist, and want an abortion. (wtf??)
- Spiritual Standards: Pray to God or Jesus ‘cuz there is no one else…
…Or is there?
All of these bullets are questionable – and that last one really rubs many folks the wrong way. For some strange reason, praying to unseen ancestors and other entities “makes no sense” – but they pray to the “unseen God” and a white Jesus – like that makes sense.
To be clear, I believe in God & Jesus – but if you know your history, there was no way Jesus was tall, with blond (straight) hair with blue eyes – (in fact – based on where he lived, he likely looked more like a short, tan, dark curly-haired man.)
Why does this matter?
Actually, it doesn’t (to me, anyway) – but powerful white men throughout history wanted to be sure they controlled not only the narrative (like – he was unmarried – when in fact he had 3 children – 2 of which were his) but also the visual.
Believe it or not, this newsletter is not about politics.
I wanted to remind you that your ancestors are a powerful source of support regardless of your lineage. In fact, I am known for reminding my clients God loves everyone, but your Ancestors love you.
I don’t know about you, but personally, I like to be favored, so working with my Ancestors is a no-brainer.
The month of October through November is known in many cultures as a time to honor your dead, so in the next few newsletters, we’ll discuss ways you can do this.
This is not “an organized approach,” – so I will not be telling you what to do and that my way is “the only way – so help you, God”. On the contrary, I am making suggestions that, if they resonate, can help you get support and assistance from the other side.
For now, take a moment to reflect on the stories you may have heard about your parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.
Get a white 7-day candle and create an altar space where you can “commune” (pray to, talk to, ask for support, guidance, etc.) with your dead.
Each and every day we move through this month, the veil gets thinner.
Take this time to thank those before you.
And remember this: You are the result of the love of thousands.
Isn’t THAT wonderful?
