How is your 2024 so far?
I must admit that mentally, I was in that “liminal head-space” that reminded me of high school for these last two weeks. The time between Christmas and New Year’s always felt dreamy when I was younger; that was precisely how I’ve been feeling.
For whatever reason, I couldn’t shake that (ungrounded) “holiday feeling” and jump into the more grounded and “determined” New Year energy.
So, I surrendered to it.
I made no big “resolutions” for the year, but I did set an intention.
Once I woke up on Thursday, everything shifted. Was it the new Moon in Capricorn (which is definitely a more grounded New Moon)?
Was it the 1/11 portal?
Was it a combination of both?
All I know is that I feel more focused and grounded now than I did just a few days ago, and my intentions are in motion with little effort on my part.
My 61 years on the planet have taught me one thing: Surrender to what is.
What I mean by that is this: If you find yourself energetically “chasing” or “pushing” for something that is not happening with ease, let it go.
Not only is “the chase” a stressful and often futile task, whatever/whoever you are chasing just may not be meant for you. I’ve journaled so many personal stories about my perceived “failures” – that when I look back, I realize I dodged several bullets!
The first of these experiences I recall was when I was in my early 20s. I was living on my own and wanted to leave the job I had been at for eight years. I applied for the new job and just knew I landed it. Fast forward, I got a letter from the company saying I didn’t get the job. I was devastated. A month later, the business closed. Had I gotten the job, I would have been -unemployed within a month!
In 2015, I was in a shitty financial state and put my house on the market. I couldn’t give my house away! My financial challenges disappeared with a single special event I hosted for one of my teachers, who is a prominent author, healer, and intuitive. Fast forward to now, I get weekly offers for my house – for twice as much as my asking price in 2015. (And No – I am NOT selling it!)
Last year, I planned on bringing a group of folks to Bali to learn Tarot in February of this year. My friend Jena has a business called Jaunt With Me where she hosts beautiful excursions to faraway destinations. The idea was that we both promote the trip, she would plan the trip, and I would teach the classes. Easy Peasy.
Several people signed up initially, but later on, a few had “shituations” pop up that hindered their ability to pay for the airfare. Suddenly, the trip that I was once giddy about felt like an albatross. We canceled the trip and low and behold, several beautiful opportunities have popped up out of the blue, that, if the trip were still planned, I would not be able to take advantage of.
The moral of the story is simple: Know that The Universe is conspiring with you, always. Sometimes, it may not feel like it. Sometimes, it may not look like it. But that man (or that woman) who broke your heart, you are better off without. That house or job you didn’t get, you are better off without. Any perceived “failure” you are pining over is teaching you the art of pivoting, being patient, and most of all, surrendering to what is.
