Did you ever watch the movie “Under the Tuscan Sun?”
It’s one of my favorite romantic comedies. Not only was the acting perfect, but the story was so relevant to all of us.
I haven’t seen the movie since it first came out in 2003, but I recall that the main character, Diane Lane, divorces her cheating husband, and spontaneously buys a villa in Tuscany to change her life. Still looking for love in Italy, she meets many beautiful characters, and her closest friends from the States also visit. She meets someone and gets romantically involved (they also cheat on her) and after that disappointing blow to her ego and time, she looks around her and realizes that, even though she doesn’t have romance, “love” was all around her. She was part of a beautiful eclectic community; one of her friends has a baby, which adds to the “love fest,” her renovated home is warm and inviting, and she realizes how abundant, happy, and full of love her life really is.
The moral of the story is: If you stop looking for love, love finds you.
Sometimes, we forget to stay present and count our blessings, but “counting our blessings” is the very thing that propels us forward, especially in the worst of times. We may spend way too much time thinking about what weighs us down, comparing our lives to (how we perceive) others’ lives, pining over a goal we haven’t yet accomplished, or longing for the past.
None of these things keep us present.
The unfortunate truth is that our lives are complicated, and dwelling on disappointments or what we “don’t have” is easier.
Keep in mind that whatever we focus on “grows”, so, energetically, it’s more effective to dwell on what we are grateful for. This becomes a magnet for what we want more of.
Our daily lives may create some twists and turns, but my Daily Reset Ritual helps me come back to center.
My Daily Reset Ritual includes:
- Upon waking, before I open my eyes, I name what I am grateful for.
- Throughout my day, I look for moments when I can honestly say, “I LOVE my life!”
- When I go to bed, I name what I am grateful for again.
