If you are like many of us, society taught you to prioritize your brain’s logical skills over your heart’s emotional abilities.
Our ancestors would disagree with this practice.
The ancient Egyptians believed the heart to be the source of wisdom and the center of intellect, emotions, and memory. It was equal to, if not more important than, all other internal organs. Unlike the other parts of the anatomy, the ancient Egyptians preserved the heart carefully in mummies to ensure its eternal life.
In fact, many ancient cultures elevated the heart to the position now occupied by the brain. Science is now starting to validate some of the wisdom of our Ancestors.
- We now know that there are over 40,000 neurons in the heart.
- We know the heart has its own nervous system.
- Science has also proven that the emotions we process in our brains also reverberate through these pathways in our hearts.
Modern, “civilized” living has moved humanity away from emotional guidance and intuition and towards the left brain zone of “logic.”
In fact, in a world that silences the heart, heart disease has become the deadliest killer, claiming more lives annually than war.
How can you tap into the wisdom of your heart?
- When facing important decisions, sit quietly and imagine yourself moving forward in the direction you are being invited. How does it make you feel?
- List the logical reasons to move forward (head) and the emotional reasons to move forward (heart). Which list has “more”? Which list “feels” right?
- Ask your heart for a “sign.” The heart emanates its energy to great distances, magnetically attracting whatever you desire.
Also, “feed” your heart. Carry rose quartz and drink and bath pink rose petal “tea” for self-love.
