You may have already noticed that at Curio, Craft & Conjure, we are partial to Hoodoo. The reason for this is that Hoodoo is a balanced system based on energy. If you are mindful of energy and how it works, you can create just about any outcome with the most basic ingredients in your kitchen.
To do this – instead of thinking in specifics, think broadly. For example, we have all heard the saying that you can “attract more flies with honey” or that someone was acting “salty.” This simply points out by either being “sweet” (or using “sweetener”), you can attract what you want, and “salt” repels.
So – in the spirit of thinking broadly, I offer this shortlist of guidelines. Think in broad terms of:
Sweet: Used to improve things, attract things, or increase things. Use a splash of Honey, White Sugar, Brown Sugar, or Molasses in love or money drawing baths.
Salty: Used to repel, break up or destroy. Use black salt, White Salt, Epsom Salt, and Soy Sauce. Tip: If you ever see a “love spell” that includes salt, it will not call love. It may (look at the directions) break up the obstacles in your path to love.
Sour: Used to destroy things, make things vanish, decrease, or separate. Use Vinegar or Lemons. Try this tip: If someone is bothering you, write their name on paper and pin it between two lemon halves.
Hot: This energy helps things speed up, transform or change. Use Cinnamon, Hot Sauce, Ginger, Hot Peppers, Jalapenos, and Fire. Putting cinnamon on a love candle can spice up your love life!
Cold: This energy helps hold things in place, slows things down, and stops things. My favorite trick here is to put people “on ice” – by writing their name on paper, placing the paper in a glass of water, and putting that glass in the freezer when they are bothersome.
Try using these energies in your work and see what happens!
