Hey there!
It’s Gianna again!
In my last newsletter I explained the “what and why” of meditation. This week I will explain the how!
Before we get started, I want to mention (again) that there is not just one way to meditate. Your meditation is your practice, so if something doesn’t resonate with you, that is perfectly fine.
How to Meditate
(the “simplistic” practice)
Three things that I recommend before starting your meditations are:
- Make sure that you are comfortable.
- Make sure you’ve peed (or used the bathroom). There’s nothing worse than not being able to focus because you have to pee really bad.
- Meditate in a space that is going to be quiet and distraction free; somewhere that you can let your guard down and be uninterrupted.
Alright, are you in a space that allows for you to begin your meditations? Great!
Now, the “simplest” way to begin a meditation practice is to close your eyes and follow your breath. Imagine that your breath is a circle that grows as you fill your stomach with air and shrinks as you exhale. Continue to do that as you sit in silence. Allow what comes to your mind to come through and pass.
Quite often we think that, in meditation you have to have an “empty mind”. In part this is true, but how do you get to the point where your mind is clear if you don’t allow what comes up to come up? Meditation is about sitting in stillness so that you can develop a better relationship with self. If you are constantly busy and don’t have the time to sit with your thoughts, then the only time you have to really connect is during meditation. So allow yourself to sit in silence for some time with your thoughts and your breath. This is one form of meditation.
Another form of meditation is guided meditation.
Guided meditation is when someone (whether in person or digitally) guides you through a meditation – pretty self-explanatory, huh?
Typically, you will experience guided meditations during intuitive development classes or in other group settings. Guided meditation is a great tool for connecting with energies around you or for specific purposes. For example, if you would like to meet guides or guardians, guided meditations can be a great help. If you find that it is hard for you to focus, a guided meditation can help you keep your mind from wandering too much. I am big on taking clients through guided meditations for healing. Guiding someone to meet a specific aspect of themselves can help them develop a healing practice that they might not have thought of.
Tip: Spotify is a great source for some guided meditations. Now that I have explained a couple of types of meditations (believe me, we could go one for years!) let me get to the entire reason I wrote these newsletters.
Have you ever meditated with plants?
Well, have you?? Meditating with plants is an amazing way to connect with the spirit of the plant that you are working with. We can read hundreds of books and see how others work with the spirits of these plants, but that doesn’t mean that’s how they will want to work with us. Personally, I love mint; mint helps me connect with my voice, on the other hand, my wife doesn’t. Mint doesn’t work with her in that way, but for her chamomile is a cure all.
See where I’m going with this? We’re all different, therefore different plants work with us in different ways. Meditating with the plants and asking them how they want to be worked with can help you develop a deeper connection with them, while allowing you to receive the help you may need.
If you are interested in connecting with five special herbs, your plant guide, and your plant guardian, go here to sign up for the Plant Spirit Connection. This 7-week class will allow you to develop a deeper connection with those five herbs, as well as the plants that are naturally helping you already. You will also receive the tools you need to then connect with the spirits of any plant you choose! With the code “Conjure” you will lock in the early bird rate of $197 rather than the $397 that this goes for! Class starts April 11th at 11am.
If this sounds interesting to you, I hope you join me!
