On Figure Candles

If you’ve ever walked into Curio, Craft & Conjure and checked out our candle section, you may be impressed, amazed, or confused. There are SO many options, and often folks aren’t sure which candles are used for what – so this newsletter goes into how you can use several types we carry.

Keep in mind you are in NO WAY limited to the suggestions here.

Candles come in different shapes, colors, and sizes, and I believe the more energy placed in a candle (combined with the right energetic soup), the better your outcome. With that said – I rarely use chime candles for my work.

General guideline for candle colors:

White: Purification, clearance, uncrossing, blessings, clarity, and healing.

Red: Lust, passion, sex magic, strength, physical energy, and motivation.

Green: Money, prosperity, creativity, fertility, wellbeing, and luck.

Pink: Love, attraction, love affection, friendship, family, love healing, and self-love.

Black: Banishing, losing, absorbing negativity, breaking hexes, and exorcism.

Figure Candles

Figure Candles help you more easily visualize your desired outcome. The history of using wax effigies in Magickal practices goes back thousands of years – to ancient Egyptians. They work a lot like voodoo poppets (dolls), using sympathetic Magick to support your goals. Figure candles can symbolize you, another individual, an energy, or an abstract spiritual concept that you are working with or towards.

Figure candles are typically anointed with herbs and oil (we have 30+ Magickal oils at Curio, Craft & Conjure – all created in-house) and can be made specific to an individual by carving their initials (or name) and astrological glyph into the candle.

Here is a basic breakdown of candle shapes and their uses:

Female: This can be used to attract a female partner, or it can represent a woman (including yourself) for whom you’d like to influence specific outcomes.

Male: This can be used to attract a male partner, or it can represent a man (including yourself) for whom you’d like to influence specific outcomes.

Skulls: These can be used to influence someone’s thoughts and can also be used to petition the support of your ancestors.

7 Knob: Often confused for a penis by non-practitioners (who evidently have never seen an actual penis), this candle is often used for attaining love, abundance, or anything that includes a “process.” A knob is burned each day for 7 days (usually, practitioners like to place a pin in each knob. Each “pinfall” represents a practical and Magickal accomplishment.)

Devil: This one often freaks folks out (it IS the Devil, after all!), but in truth, it can be used for material gain as well as for breaking bad habits.

Wedding: This candle can be used to support a proposal of marriage or to support a married couple in conflict.

Couple: This can be used to enhance sex or love or to meet someone of the opposite sex. (If you want to meet someone of the same sex, use two same-sex candles and bind them together.)

Phallus/Penis: This can be used to enhance your Masculine aspects (if you are a man or a woman). It can also represent your (male) partner, supporting better sex, or be dressed to “hex” your ex.

Yoni/Vulva: This can be used to enhance your Feminine aspects (if you are a man or a woman). It can also represent your (female) partner, supporting better sex, or be dressed to “hex” your ex.

Cross: Suitable for Hoodoo, Christian, and Pagan Witchcraft, the Cross is a timeless symbol that predates Christianity and is sacred to many mythologies worldwide. These are used for blessing work, exorcism, purification, dedication, or consecration of ritual tools.

Cat: Traditionally used for luck, attraction, purification, or healing pets (usually cats, but you can use them for other pets). You can also commune with deceased pets, find lost pets, AND use them in other rituals for attraction.
