I’ll never forget when my mother gave me a sterling silver rattle for my daughter when she was born.
I’m not sure if my mother knew what the rattle did energetically, but by the time I gifted the rattle to one of my favorite people after she had her baby, I knew exactly why I was gifting it.
Rattles have been given to babies throughout time – about 2500 years – for a specific reason: To disperse negative energy.
In fact, in the early days of the American Revolution, John Hancock wrote to his wife, Dorothy
When shaken rattles energetically break up dense, negative energy. Silver is used to protect or shield. So, energetically, it makes more sense to have a silver rattle than a gold one.
Personally, I prefer rattles made from natural materials. At Curio, Craft & Conjure we have numerous rattles from two of our favorite suppliers.
One of them, Journey There Wands, will be offering a Rattle Makingclass on Saturday February 9th. Participants will make their own Medicine Rattles with sea urchin or oyster and other natural materials, guided by Autumn Austin. When done, there will also be a drum journey to meet the Spirit of your rattle.
