Thanking “the Spirit”

Happy Sunday!

If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, you may have noticed that I often suggest expressing gratitude to the Spirit of whatever “tool” you are using. Be it any of the elements, crystals, herbs – even your tarot deck—I suggest starting whatever ritual you are about to embark on by communing with and thanking the Spirit of your chosen support tool.

See, everything has a Spirit, but not necessarily a soul. (For example, you know your pets have a soul. You can see it in their eyes. Our plants, however, do not, but they do have a Spirit.)

The Spirit in everything connects to The Great Spirit (God, Goddess, The Divine, The Universe – however you perceive “God.”)

When we sit and connect with the Spirit of our tools, we are:

  • Acknowledging its presence.
  • Acknowledging our connection to it, through our own Spirit.
  • Paying respect to it.

I see many people in our community commodifying ritual by simply “using” our tools but never even thinking about thanking it.

When you are doing any ritual to create change in your life, think about this energetic equation:

Fire + Air + Water = Earth

OR

Fire/Spirit/Inspiration + Air/Strategy/Intellect + Water/Emotion/Excitement = Earth/Results

Every ritual we perform contains at least these “elemental Spirits.” When we pay our respects to The Spirit of our tools in addition to our Ancestors and whichever deities we work with, our rituals and practices become visceral and, dare I say, more effective.

I invite you to try it and tell me what you think!
