Looking at my daughter and her big brother (they’re 10 years part) I clearly see they look so much alike.
And they each have their father’s forehead. Or should I say…. “five-head” <3
They’re also both great cooks, having a special appreciation for steak and potatoes. I am sure this too, is an Irish thing they get from their Dad. These are both simple and pretty harmless traits, and pretty easy to trace.
But what about the stuff that comes up about ourselves that’s not as easy to trace?
A friend of mine is going through hell with her teenage daughter. This intelligent, beautiful teen has demonstrated serious mood swings throughout her life, dropped out of high-school, moved out, and hooked up with an abusive drug dealer boyfriend. Even with all of her common sense, she seems to look for trouble.
My friend, at her wits end, was trying to figure out where she went wrong.
After listening to her, I told her about a book I’m reading that had some fascinating revelations, that happen to align with the shaman traditions I’ve studied.
It Didn’t Start with You by Mark Wolynn reveals how inherited family trauma shapes who we are.
Surprised, my friend then shared that her uncle (who died before the teen was even a thought) had been bipolar and made a string of bad choices, before committing suicide.
Well guess what?
….He’s Baaaa-aack!
