So…I am having lunch with my friend (a former student who now has her own thriving business) and I shared my most exciting secret: I was able to secure author Sasha Graham for Lumin8 Charlotte, my annual “Educational FunRaiser” that helps people with cancer. She had never heard of her, so I shared what I am sharing with you. Sasha Graham is….

My friend was all “in” until number 3….This is when things got a little wonky.
See, I don’t necessarily call myself a ‘witch’, but other people probably would. I read tarot cards, predict the future, speak to the dead, revere my ancestors, and ALWAYS have some kind of candle magick goin’ on in my house, never mind the 4 tarot/crystal grids and 7 altars that support my work.
While I may not like labels, it doesn’t stop me from acknowledging that people label ME.
So, when my beautiful friend crinkled up her cute little button nose and said “Witch???” – (while I simultaneously felt the barometric pressure rise because her constricted anus sucked the air right out of Luna’s Kitchen), I was surprised.
Why?
Because she does many of the same things I do: Read tarot cards, predict the future, & speak to the dead!
Now, I believe the word “witch” intentionally rhymes with “bitch”.
When the patriarchy decided they wanted a lopsided version of “power” and made all things female suspect (like periods, Friday the 13th, and healers – who had suddenly became mostly male “doctors”) – we (women) knew it was safer to NOT associate with the “W” word, regardless of our powers, gifts and skills. Lifetimes ago we watched our sister-witches drown or burn at the steak.
There are numerous powerful women in the world still shying away from the label, as if it were a curse unto itself.
It may have been a survival mechanism in the past for powerful witchy women to be on the “down-low”, but during these crazyass times, we need to harness our abilities, stick together and support each other, regardless of the label: black/white; rich/poor; intuitive/witch. We need to stand in (and remember) our power.
Give. Get. Grow.
Lumin8 Charlotte is not until October but I am getting ready NOW.
During Lumin8 Charlotte we’ll raffle off donated items and services. The cash raised during the event will be awarded to an individual experiencing cancer or a company dedicated to supporting those with cancer. The application for the cash award is here.
I am also accepting donations (cash, services and items) to be raffled at the event. Donors give back while increasing visibility to the attendees at the event. During our first year we raised $850 (which was donated to Wind River Wellness, a non-profit cancer retreat center). This year the goal is $3000.
Sasha Graham will take us on a beautiful journey of everyday enchantment…So plan to get your “witch” on. Save the date…. I can’t wait!
