Not all Spiritual teachers are created equal, but you can learn something – even from the bad ones.
I once studied with a famous medical intuitive. She is a brilliant “real doctor,” author, teacher, and professional Intuitive. I was excited to go to Maine to study with her. In fact, I paid a small fortune to have this up-close and personal experience.
There are SO many stories I can share about that weekend in Maine – but this story has to do with this specific topic – “bad teachers.”
There were about 18 of us in the class from around the US and the world. Most were novices, but a handful of us was not.
As this teacher stood at the front of the room, sharing information about chakras and their properties, someone in the class politely asked if there would be any handouts.
Her response: “Why? So you can steal my information??”
We all sat there in shock! We all paid a king’s ransom for this experience, so handouts were expected. And the way she snapped at this student was unnecessary.
We later discovered that her personal assistant had stolen all the money we had paid and disappeared! Needless to say, she wore her suspicion of everyone on her sleeve!
At one point, after teaching about the first three chakras, she blurted out a name (I’ll say Jane Smith) – then said, “Tell me what you get” – and walked out the room! Most of the class sat with blank faces while the handful of us tapped in, got insight, then gave those around us tips to help them reach their insight.
From this experience, I learned a few things:
- Always have handouts!
- Only give those you trust the “keys to the vault.”
- Don’t assume your students know what you know.
There are many people in the spiritual community who have the same type of power hunger as cult leaders. Here are a few tips for discerning the “bad teachers” from the “good teachers.”
- Bad teachers take themselves too seriously.
- Bad teachers claim to have experienced an ego death or (no ego at all).
- Bad teachers put down the “competition.”
- Bad teachers only teach “love and light.”
- A bad teacher’s personal life is a mess.
