On February 10, 2024, we welcomed the Lunar New Year of the Green Wood Dragon, which stretches until January 28, 2025.
This year promises to be particularly fascinating because the dragon stands out among the Chinese zodiac’s 12 animals as the sole creature of myth. Unlike its European counterpart, the Chinese dragon is a symbol of benevolence, known for summoning rain rather than breathing fire.
A renowned Master Feng Shui consultant, M. Carol Assa, sheds light on this majestic being: “Imagine a creature with the antlers of a deer, the head of a camel, enigmatic eyes, the body of a snake, the belly of a crab, the scales of a carp, the claws of a hawk, the paws of a tiger, and the ears of a cow. Its might is encapsulated in a radiant pearl hidden beneath its chin, granting it the ability to change size!”
The year 2024 is under the dominion of yang wood, perched atop the yang Green Wood Dragon, itself a symbol of yang earth. This combination foretells a year marked by tension and discord.
Yang wood, like the steadfast oak, resists change and often heralds chaos. It symbolizes unwavering and inflexible leadership, yet on the flip side, it represents loyalty, reliability, and kindness.
The dragon, though an earth symbol, harmonizes water and wood within it, softening yang wood’s stiffness.
Many believe this combination may reveal global tensions, reminiscent of past conflicts and upheavals, such as the turmoil of 1964’s yang wood dragon year which saw significant historical moments: Civil Rights protests, (the “Freedom Summer”, which involved numerous protests), the Vietnam War had peaked, among many events, that brought about significant change—including Martin Luther King receiving the Nobel prize for leading nonviolent resistance against racism. We made significant strides at the cost of many lives.
The ancient Chinese prophecy book “Tu bei tu” (akin to “The Prophecies of Nostradamus,”) believed to be based on I Ching – contains 60 drawings with poems that make predictions about China’s future.
Poem #43 offers insights into the future, with the image of a big man walking next to a small man) hinting at the dynamics between Taiwan and China. The thought-provoking part of the prophecy refers to: “..the black rabbit escapes into the green dragon’s cave.” 2023 was the year of the Black Rabbit and this is the year of the Green Dragon. Some speculate that the Black Rabbit is the U.S. and that the poem may predict significant changes in our dynamic with China this year.
One thing is for sure: This year promises intensity and transformation. As we navigate these times, stay grounded, focus on the positive, and hold on to your hat!
Tip: To experience more prosperity in this Green Wood Dragon Year, make a money bowl using green magick rice, (for prosperity), eight Lucky I Ching coins, three pieces of pyrite and 3 whole nutmegs and place it in the southeast corner of your house. Leave it there all year!
