We are in the “thick” of Mercury’s retrograde. If you don’t already know, this is a time that is reputed for causing a lot of havoc in people’s lives.
The reason for this is that Mercury is the “messenger” planet. Anything that has to do with “getting your message across” can be delayed, misconstrued, mis-communicated, blocked, challenged, or overlooked altogether. Things you want to avoid during this time include signing contracts, starting new things, marketing, promoting, and even travel.
I invite you to look at the timing of this retrograde: December 13th – (just before Christmas!) – through January 1st.
This cosmic event is hindering all of us from overspending, over-committing, or talking ourselves into any pipe dreams over the holidays (like signing up for a gym membership you will never see through.)
I know this all sounds like bad news, but what if we looked at this cosmic event through a different lens?
What if we simply slowed down, savored where we are, rested, and reflected on our past challenges through the lens of the lessons, opportunities, and power we gained through them?
What if we imagined our goals and dreams through a new lens, not the rose-colored glasses offered to us by the media, filled with expensive gifts in large, wrapped boxes, puppy presents, cars, or other luxury items – where we end up feeling like we fall short?
Why overspend (only to regret it a month later when the bill arrives? Why spoil our children so they grow up into adulthood looking for a handout on the holidays?
I met with my acupuncturist today and we both agreed that, could we do it all over again, we would not have our children embrace the lie of Santa Claus, which promotes the lie that if you are “good” you get lavish gifts. Being “good” has nothing to do with a parent’s budget. A “good” child could be lured into thinking that if they act like their “bratty” (rich kid) neighbor, they may get more out of life.
Believe it or not, while I am feeling the effects of the retrograde, I like the timing of it. I think we all need to slow down, reflect over the year, reassess our goals and dreams, reimagine and reprioritize. We can tie up loose ends from 2023 and journal our ideas for the new year. I’ll be doing a vision board to help me get clear – (If you choose to do this, implement nothing until after the 1st of the year!)
Between now and New Year’s Day, I suggest doing as much energetic clearing as possible via spiritual baths, closet clearing, smudging, and floor sweeps.
