Are you a Good Witch or a Bad Witch?

My generation knows these lines from the infamous Wizard of Oz movie. In a more recent movie, Miss Peregrin’s Home for Peculiar Children – the question was more succinctly asked: “What is your peculiarity?

Underneath both questions is “Do you know what your “Super Power” is?

I believe all of us have “Super Powers” beyond what we were taught (like math or writing). I believe we all have pretty profound natural abilities, but we have been taught to focus on the mundane and knowledge from books. In fact, we’ve even been rewarded for it – and we all want to be rewarded because with a reward comes being “seen” or “acknowledged.” In this process of learning, we unlearned our natural gifts.

As I have moved into this chapter of my life, I’ve learned a few things about myself:

• The good or bad opinions from others mean nothing to me. It’s more about how I feel about myself.
• The pursuit of happiness trumps the pursuit of wealth. My happiness comes from experiences – not books.
• If those around me feel like a tight pair of pants, I remove them. I have no desire to “blend.”

Even when we approach our personal brand of “witchery,” – we feel compelled to grab a book, so someone else can “tell us what to do.”
