For me, the definition of Magick is simple:
Magick is the Art and Science of Influencing Change in Alignment with your specific intentions.
Many think Magick is casting spells, performing rituals, carrying talismans, and creating brews to support healing, love, abundance, and more.
In my online Program, Intuition Witch, I share five keys to Magick in Lesson 6.
Here I’ll list the five essential keys to spellcasting – starting with the first key in-depth:
The 1st Key: Magick is an influence, not a cause.
We influence two key things:
- Events: Meaning anything that has a chance of happening. From a shift in the weather to a new job. Influencing the energy that allows these is Magick. So – Magick influences change – but does not cause change.
- Minds: Influencing what someone (or a group of “someones.”
Note: Here – people get caught up on the topic of free will. If you have ever purchased something after seeing an ad pop up in your feed several times, your “free will” was influenced. Marketing is another type of magick.
The thing is this: Minds are not so easy to influence. It takes marketers thousands – often millions of dollars (for the repeated exposure) to influence others.
You may even want to break a personal habit (i.e., eating/drinking/drugs/a person) and find it a challenge even though you want it for yourself!
So – what Magick finds here is “resonance.”
I’ll quote one of my teachers’ (Jason Miller) views on this: “Enchanting people’s minds is not difficult if it is for something that they are somewhat open to, and you do non-magical things to help it along….”
Personally – I will refer to quantum theories to make sense of Magick – Energy is like a door-to-door salesman. It looks for resonance.
When we start to create magickal goals, it’s important to remember this and the following “keys.”
The 2nd Key: Make Your Goal Probable: Yeah… that goal of winning the 3-Million-dollar lottery? Not so probable. That goal of landing a new job? Probable!
The 3rd Key: Make Your Goal Powerful: This goal should be inspiring and doable. Not limiting yourself (out of fear of failure) by some low-ball goal you have already met – but stretching yourself to the next level.
Remember: “Stretch – don’t splatter.”
Definition: If you’ve never made more than $40,000 in a year, making your initial Magickal goal – an annual income of $100,000, may feel spiritually & physically unreasonable. Starting with $55,000 or $60,000 goal may feel more “do-able”. So, the key here is to “find your next doable step.”
The 4th Key: Make Your Goal Specific: “More money,” “better health,” or “I want Michael to love me” are not specific enough. Yes – they do sound specific – but let’s look at them individually.
“More Money”: This can equate to finding a dollar on the street or getting a .50 per hour raise. Is that what you want?
“Better Health”: This can equate to lowering your cholesterol, but if you have a tumor killing you, wouldn’t you want to focus on that? Do you want to die healthy or delay death? (This is not a rhetorical question.)
“Michael to love you”: Michael may already love you as a person – but not like you enough to marry you. Also – how you experience love and how” Michael” experiences love may be two different things. Again – be as specific as possible. What does love look/feel like to you?
The 5th Key: Offerings: Whether you enlist the support of Angels, Ancestors, Ascended Masters, or other entities – offerings will bump up your game.
We explore the notion of additional “support” in Lesson 6 of Intuition Witch and talk about how to “bribe” them!
In this 3-D reality, many folks are challenged to ask for help. If this sounds like you – get used to the idea.
If your partner or spouse is not doing their part – speak up.
If you could use a little help from someone in your sphere of influence – ask.
When it comes to petitioning the unseen, we ask and offer “gifts” in gratitude.
Regular, physical offerings made in good faith help you gain the support of the unseen entities in energies that you are working with.
Whether you choose to work with elements alone, ancestors, or additional entities, offerings help establish and build a connection that supports an energy exchange.
In terms of offerings, different entities and energies have different preferences. I also share a list you can use to support almost any magical work and “the rules” around them in Intuition Witch.
As you can see, Magick is all about energy. And the reality is simple: Magick isn’t what you do. It is who you are already are.
